Our JMS People of the Revolution Hall of Fame was pretty amazing. As a crafter, I loved all of the paper doll crafting that took place. Most importantly, the research, learning, analyzing and writing was fun to see. Well done, 8th grade!

Here are the winners of the YeArt contest. It's clear that you understand the significance of this year in US History. Photo credit: Colton B. Do you want an opportunity to tour a college campus? Would you like to be a part of a state-wide celebration of an Act that has changed many lives? Would you like to miss a day of school? How about a free lunch?
Jarrell Middle School has been invited to be a part of a celebration of the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Signing of the Higher Education Act. The Higher Education Act made a college education attainable for thousands of lower- and middle-income students who would never have considered this possibility. Pell Grants, work-study, low-interest student loans, the National Teachers Corps, Title IX opening sports to women, and much more are part of the Act that we now take for granted. The signing of the Higher Education Act that took place at Texas State 50 years ago and its impact on our nation is worth the commemoration. We are excited to be included in this celebration! 25 students will be randomly selected (drawn out of a hat) to attend. We will ride a bus to San Marcos & tour Texas State University. We get to eat lunch in the ballroom, learn more about the Act and the people who made it happen, plus those who have benefited from it. We will be back in Jarrell by the end of the school day. If you are interested, click on the attached form and complete it. If you are NOT interested in attending, please click on the form let me know. Thank you! Click HERE to complete the application. There will be an EXAM on October 13. Part of that exam will be a blank map of the 13 Colonies. We've been learning about these places this week. We'll continue into the next week too. You can always study, though. Right? Remember, no re-takes or corrections will be offered.
Click HERE for another interactive website to help you learn those colonies. When we think pilgrims, we think of an image like the one above. Actually, those pilgrims were people on a religious journey. They wanted to separate from their homeland in order to start a new life form themselves and their families.
Students had a lesson today where they got to make a choice between "RULERLAND" or "FREEDOMLAND." It was kind of like the pilgrims...only not even close. They received homework yesterday. It's due Tuesday, 9/29 Click HERE if you lost your YeART: 1620 Click HERE if you lost your passage about the Mayflower Compact |
